Downsizing from two iPhones to one

When my company purchased iPhones for the entire staff, I was excited. I had had an iPhone for about a year, used it for nearly everything, and would like to have a phone to lean on for work-related usage.

And really, what could be better than having two iPhones?

But after about a year, I am canceling my account. It look about six months to come to this point and I can't be more egger to downsize.

Here’s a quick rundown of the pros and cons.

Things that rocked

• If one phone dies, you have another.
• If you receive a call on the go and need to check your calendar or e-mail, there’s phone number two to provide that information.
• Two phones = a chick magnet (or at least, started conversation at the bar).

What sucked

• Need two of everything: chargers, cases, attention spans.
• Checking two phones
• Getting text messages (not iMessages) on one phone, forgetting about it.
• Setting up one phone with the perfect app set up and not having the same set up on the other phone.

What held me off for so long

• I was grandfatherclaused in for unlimited data and didn’t want to get rid of it. But once my company said it would not allow people to keep it and upgrade the phone with reduced price.
• I wanted to be upgrade my phone when I wanted, not when my company upgrades me. But cutting out my personal bill, I will save enough money to purchase two unlocked iPhones a year.
• I wanted to keep my own account. Call me crazy, but it was a feeling of independence.

What I am doing now:

I’m going to have my work phone be my primary device, with the iPad for personal data usage. If the iPad Mini had a retina display, I would get one of those and carry it around.

I’m not a big Google fan, but Google Voice is too darn convent for what I want to do. I’m porting my old personal number over to Google and use it for certain kind of calls. It’s nice to be able to keep my personal number and be able to port it out in the future. I've had the same number since my first cell phone at 15. I've always thought it would be cool to have one personal number for my entire life.

While, too, it’s nice to save money, I ultimately became exhausted checking two phones. The moment of clarity came on Friday when I received a call on my personal iPhone and realized the battery was about to die. I also had notifications from the past 48 hours.

If you don’t use it, loose it.
